Title:
Virus-like element present in multiple copies in Schmidtea mediterranea genome.
Journal:
Repbase Reports 8(2), 166-166 (2008)
Abstract:
There are over 100 remnants of this DNA virus interspersed in the genome. The reconstructed copy contains at least three ORFs homologous to virus proteins. PIVE is distantly related to another planarian virus called PEVE (ref. 2), which appears not to integrate in the genome. PIVE has 88 bp terminal inverted repeats (TIRs). Current data do not account for its relative successful integration to the genome.
