Abstract:
hAT6-1_NV is a young family of hAT DNA transposons and it belongs to a novel group of hAT transposons, called hAT6, generating 6-bp target site duplications upon their insertions into chromosomal DNA. The hAT6 transposase is remotely similar to the standard hAT transposase; identified hAT6 transposase sequences form a distinctive phylogenetic cluster and they are also present in different species, e.g. sea urchin. hAT6-1_NV is flanked by 14-bp TIRs (3 mismatches) and encodes a 714-aa transposase (2 exons). The transposase contains the C2H2 zinc finger motif present in diverse hAT transposase sequences encoded by different hAT transposons. The hAT6-1_NV family is younger than ~1 million years (copies are less than 1% divergent from the consensus sequence).
