Abstract:
This is an L1-like element from opossum. Copies are ~85% similar to the consensus, and it does not show particularly high similarity to other L1s in Monodelphis; the highest similarity is to L1-1_ME from Macropus eugenii (58% identity with TBLASTX). The coding region corresponds to the LINE-1 reverse transcriptase, not ORF1 as is the case for L1-3_ME, which is an analogous non-autonomous element. Although the consensus is only ~3.5 kb, this sequence appears to be complete. Full-length copies possess characteristic poly-A tails, and 16-17 bp target site duplications. Reconstructed from v. 4 of the Monodelphis WGS assembly.
