Abstract:
FW3_DM belongs to the JOCKEY clade of non-LTR retrotransposons. FW3_DM is a separate family. Members of this family are ~93% identical to the FW3_DM consensus sequence. Therefore, this family was active a few million years ago. The identity of FW3_DM with members of other families is less than 70%. The sequence is incomplete, a ~500-bp 3' terminal portion of FW3_DM is not reconstructed yet. ORF1 and ORF2 are corrupted by mutations that are difficult to correct because of unsufficient sequence data. There are ~10 copies of FW3_DM present in the sequenced portion of the D. melanogaster genome.
