Abstract:
CHAPLIN6 is an autonomous MER1-group DNA transposon. The protein encoded by ORF 272-2164 is over 70% similar (over 583 AA) to the Mesozoic mammalian Charlie6 transposase. There are some 'subfamilies', some of which appear young (down to 2% div), some older. Could indicate multiple invasions or, less likely, evolution in the germline.
