Abstract:
ATCOPIA85_I is an internal region of the ATCOPIA85 copia-like endogenous retrovirus. ATCOPIA85 forms a separate family of copia-like retroviruses present in the A. thaliana genome. The only proviral copy is without the 5' LTR; approximately 1 kb of the internal portion is also lost. The 3' LTR is in place, we identified it based on a 95% identity to its copy present in AC023279. ATCOPIA85_I encodes remnants of the ATCOPIA85p copia-like polyprotein. The ORF which encodes ATCOPIA85p does not have false stop codons. Therefore, ATCOPIA85 is a young retrovirus.
