Abstract:
This is a clear transposon-like element encoding DIRS tyrosine recombinase. It is distantly related to DIRS-type elements but it lacks reverse transcriptase and has 30-bp sub-terminal inverted repeats (pos. 1-33 and 1667-1698), and a 3'-terminal palindrome (pos. 1705-1832). After identification of other protein sequences closest to the Nematostella recombinase we found that they are also not associated with reverse transcriptase (Crypton-1_SP). Therefore, it is classified as a Crypton-type transposon (first reported in fungi ref. 1).
