Abstract:
Chapaev-1_HM is a young family of autonomous Chapaev DNA transposons that were active in the hydra genome just a few million years ago (they are ~1.6% divergent from their consensus sequence). The consensus sequence was obtained based on a multiple alignment of 15 copies; it codes for a 654-aa Chapaev transposase (two exons). Chapaev-1_HM is characterized by 4-bp target site duplications and 211-bp terminal inverted repeats. Based on the TPase identities, Chapaev-1_HM forms a distinctive group together with Chapaev-2_HM and Chapaev-5_HM. The N-terminal portion of this group TPase contains a Chapa-like zinc finger (H-X7-C-X2-C-X35-C-X2-C-x36/38-C-X2-C) but is free of the RING finger motif.
