Abstract: GYPSY26_AG is a family of gypsy-like LTR retrotransposons that, according to the aminoacid sequence of its reverse transcriptase, is phylogenetically grouped with representatives of the mag lineage of other organisms. GYPSY18_AG, GYPSY19_AG, GYPSY20_AG, GYPSY21_AG, GYPSY22_AG, GYPSY23_AG, GYPSY24_AG, GYPSY25_AG, GYPSY27_AG and GYPSY28_AG are other members of this same lineage in Anopheles gambiae. The GYPSY26-I_AG consensus was reconstructed after multiple alignment of 6 copies. The consensus encodes the 1278-aa GYPSY26_AGp gag-pol like protein (pos. 36-3869). The sequence of the LTRs flanking GYPSY26-I is deposited as GYPSY26-LTR_AG.
