Abstract: Penelope1_CI is a family of non-LTR retrotransposons from the Penelope superfamily. Penelope1_CI encodes a 604-aa Penelope1_CIp reverse transcriptase (pos. 1-2531, conceptual translation). Penelope1_CI retrotransposons usually are 5' truncated. Therefore, the consensus sequence is incomplete at its 5' end. Penelope1_CI is represented in the genome by approximately 1000 ~1kbp long 3'-end copies. They are 5% divergent from the consensus sequence. The ~200-bp 3'-terminus is often repeated and forms a palindromic structure.
