Abstract:
The CHAPLIN transposons are hobo-Activator-Tam3 like elements belonging to the distinct MER1/Charlie branch. This clade is characterized by the preferred 8 bp duplicated target site NTCTAGAN. The current CHAPLIN1_FR is not a full-length, autonomous element. The ORF from bp 300-720 region encodes a fragment of a protein most similar to the CHAPLIN8 and mammalian CHARLIE8 transposases. On average, copies are 6% diverged from the consensus.
