Abstract: ATCOPIA92_I is an internal region of the ATCOPIA92 copia-like endogenous retrovirus flanked by the 95% identical ATCOPIA92LTR long terminal repeats and a 5-bp target-site duplication (GAATA). ATCOPIA92 forms a separate family of copia-like retroviruses present in the A. thaliana genome since members of other families are less than 75% identical to ATCOPIA92_I. ATCOPIA92_I encodes remnants of the ATCOPIA92p copia-like polyprotein. The ORF which encodes ATCOPIA92p is damaged by several false frame shifts and stop codons.
