Abstract:
ATCOPIA88_I is an internal region of the ATCOPIA88 copia-like endogenous retrovirus flanked by the 97% identical ATCOPIA88LTR long terminal repeats, and a 5-bp target-site duplication (TAATG). ATCOPIA88 forms a young family of copia-like endogenous retroviruses present today in the A. thaliana genome. ATCOPIA88_I encodes remnants of the ATCOPIA88p copia-like polyprotein. An ORF encoding the polyprotein is damaged by several false stop codons and frame shifts.
