Abstract: ATCOPIA18A_I is an internal region of the ATCOPIA18A copia-like endogenous retrovirus flanked by the 99% identical ATCOPIA18ALTR long terminal repeats, and a 5-bp target-site duplication (GTGTT). ATCOPIA18A is a subfamily of the ATCOPIA18 family. There is a 77% identity between the ATCOPIA18A_I and ATCOPIA18I internal sequences. ATCOPIA18A_I encodes remnants of the ATCOPIA18Ap copia-like polyprotein. The ORF which encodes ATCOPIA18Ap is slightly damaged by false stop codons and other mutations.
